Mali’s nomadic Tuareg tribes will open their fifth annual gathering in January of 2009 in Essakane, a Saharan oasis 65km from Timbuktu. Although it is not your tipycal holiday, you are guaranteed a unique cultural experience like no other!
Your “hotel” will be the Tuareg tents and your bed will be ground mats and exclusive World Genesis sleeping bags as desert temperatures in January are hot during the day (35 C/100 F) but quite cold at night (5 C/40 F).
The Tuareg people also known as the “Blue Men of the Desert” are welcoming musicians from Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Ethiopia and many other countries worldwide. The festivities traditionally include singing, dancing, swordplay, camel races and artisans’ exhibits.
